History of VMR

This rescue organisation was founded due to 2 fishermen from Burrum Heads going missing and the locals deciding to go looking for them. Over a period of 2 days sadly the vessel was located but nothing was to come of the missing men.

The relatives of the missing men decided to donate over $1,000 to implement a rescue organisation called “Burrum Rescue”. As funding became more available the operation grew in size and changed its name to “Air Sea Rescue”. After a number of years the state association changed the name to “Volunteer Marine Rescue” which we are widely known as today.
